The DogFather Rescue Inc – Foster Carer Guidelines
These guidelines outline the responsibilities of foster carers and the standards expected by The DogFather Rescue Inc. All foster dogs remain the legal property of The DogFather Rescue Inc until formally adopted.
Foster Carer Responsibilities
• Provide safe temporary housing, daily care, affection, and basic training. Your observations help us match the dog with the right home.• If you wish to adopt your foster dog, notify us immediately. We advertise and assess applicants quickly, so early notice prevents you being placed behind other adopters.• Report immediately if the dog goes missing, is injured, shows behavioural issues, or if any welfare concerns arise.• Keep the dog securely contained at home and on-lead when off your property (unless in a designated off-leash area and only if you can safely control the dog).• Ensure the dog wears an ID tag at all times.• Provide daily exercise, fresh water, food, shelter, shade, and humane living conditions.• If you choose to feed your own food instead of the food we supply, reimbursement is not available. Never feed cooked bones; raw beef or lamb bones only.• Groom, bathe, and check the dog for ticks daily (twice daily if possible). Contact us immediately if you see signs of tick paralysis or any urgent symptoms.• Never use harsh punishment. Contact us for behavioural support if needed.• Never leave the dog in a hot car.• If you can no longer foster, give reasonable notice (ideally two weeks) so we can arrange another carer.
The DogFather Rescue Inc Responsibilities
• We retain full ownership and make all final decisions regarding the dog’s care, placement, and adoption.• We may move the dog to another carer or transfer the dog to an approved adopter at any time.• We cover all veterinary decisions and expenses while the dog is in your care. Vet visits require our approval unless it is a genuine emergency and you cannot reach us.• We supply parasite prevention and food as needed (carers using their own food do so at their own expense only if agreed).• Do not take the dog on trips or away from your home without our prior consent.• Adoption screenings and meet-and-greets are handled by us. A DogFather representative will attend all meetings, and you will be notified beforehand.
Important:The dog must never be handed over, loaned, or transferred to any person without explicit approval from The DogFather Rescue Inc.
